From the course: Rock Guitar Lessons: Teach Yourself to Play

The fourth string D

- Cool, so let's move on to the fourth string notes. So we have open D, (guitar twangs) then the second fret of that string is E, (guitar twangs) which is the bottom note of the staff. The bottom line. And then, (guitar twangs) the third fret, F, which is the first space of the staff. So again, those notes are D, open, E, second fret, and F, third fret. And let's just play through the first example using that string. Here we go. (metronome clicks) One, two, ready, go. (minor guitar melody) Let's move on to the next example, which moves through those notes a little more quickly. (metronome clicks) One, two, ready, go. (minor guitar tune) (drum set click track) Let's move on to the 1950s rock lick. Let's play through this together. Here we go. (metronome clicks) One, two, ready, go. (guitar-centric rock tune) And now let's move on to a lick that's in the style of the Deep Purple song, Smoke on the Water. For this, I want you guys to switch to a distorted guitar sound. (metronome clicks) One, two, one, two, three, four. ("Foggy Lake") All right, the next riff is in the style of the bridge section of Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, so it's in a fast tempo, and you can, of course, practice it by yourself before you try to do it with me. Just keep in mind that the quarter notes are even here. Let's try it. (metronome clicks) One, two, one, two, ready, go. ("Ladder to Heaven") And the next riff is in the style of Wild Child by the Doors so you can go back to a clean tone for this one. Let's try it. (metronome clicks) One, two, one, two, ready, go. ("Crazy Kid")
