- Now that we know the chords in the 12 bar blues, let's put some melody over the top. (piano blues music) (piano blues music) - All the notes you just heard come from a six note scale called The Blues Scale. This scale is made up of the minor pentatonic scale plus one extra note that we call the blue note. Here's how can find the notes of a blue scale in any key. When we talks about notes in the chord or a scale, we use numbers to label each notes place in a major scale. For example, in the key of C, the note C is one. D is two. E is three and so on. Sharp or flat notes are indicated by putting a sharp or a flat in front of the number. For example, E flat is the flat three in the key of C. The formula for the minor pentatonic scale is one, flat three, four, five, flat seven. Let's look at this in the key of C. We would have C. E flat. F. G. And B flat.
