- [Instructor] Another problem when it comes to the craft of songwriting is struggling with ideas for your second verse. This is something that all songwriters struggle with. As a matter of fact, a hit songwriter friend of mine once said, I'd have a lot more hit songs if I didn't have to write a second verse. Here are some solutions and ways that you can approach writing your second verse. When I'm struggling one of the first things that I think about is, what is my song's message? What have I already said? Have I said enough in the first verse to sort of cover it all or am I missing something? What else can I say that will move the story along and give people more information, as opposed to simply restating what I said in the first verse, which is it's own set of problems and makes songs feel long and a little bit less interesting.
