Your songs feel long when they're not

- [Instructor] A second problem that songwriters tend to run into over time is that your songs feel long, even when they're not necessarily long in terms of the amount of time that they take. There are lots of ways to fix this. One of the first and most important ways to go about that is that make sure that your verse lyric is moving your story forward. In other words, every line of your verse needs to further that story a little bit. There's a tendency in the heat of battle when your writing a song, just to write down whatever feels good. And sometimes whatever feels good is saying the same idea over and over again. So as long as you keep an eye on moving the ball forward when it comes to your song's story, you're songs, even if they actually are long in time, will be much more engaging and won't feel long.
