- [Instructor] A final issue that I'm covering in The Craft of Songwriting is that situation where you can't remember that great idea you were working on the day before. I only had to make this mistake once or twice early on in my writing career before I realized look, the thought of working on something, and being really into it, and then coming back the next day after having not written anything down or recorded anything, it was just so heartbreaking not to be able to remember what I was working on, that I don't do that anymore. And, by the way, I definitely don't believe the adage that if it's a good idea, you'll remember it. Because if you write a lot, it is really easy to forget what you've done the day before or, heaven help me as I get older, the hour before. One of the things that I do is I keep some sort of a simple recorder running at all times when I am writing. And by simple, I mean you could be recording into the voice memos app on your smartphone or a little simple…
