What genre to use for your demo
- [Instructor] Sometimes as songwriters, we just write songs, and we don't have any idea what genre the songs are in. The problem is when you get to the studio, you kind of have to know. So I'm going to propose a couple of things to think about to help you decide what genre to choose for your song when you demo that song. First and foremost, take a look at the lyric. The more literal storytelling songs are generally country or folk. The more image-based, interpretive would be more pop, where it's the sound of the words as opposed to exact story that's being told. Another thing to think about is the particular artist that you have in mind. This can help focus your decision too. If there's a particular artist you're hoping will cut your song, then think about the genre that artist works in.
