What to ask for when your session is complete

- [Instructor] A lot of times, songwriters who don't have a lot of studio experience don't know what they don't know. In other words, they don't know what to ask for when the studio session is done. I'm going to help you with all of the things that you will need to ask your studio for, so that when you leave the studio, you have every version of your song that you will need. First and foremost, always ask for the following mixes. One, hi-res and MP3 versions of your regular mix. That means the mix with the instruments and the vocals. Then, also ask for hi-res and MP3 versions of the instrumental mix. No vocals at all. And finally, there will be an occasion sometimes if the harmony vocals are very elaborate, where you'll want something called the TV track. That is instruments and harmony vocals, but no lead vocals, and that's called the TV track because artists will use that sometimes when they perform on TV and they want the backgrounds in, but they want to sing the lead themselves…
