Learn how to play banjo with award-winning banjo player and teacher Tony Trischka. Part 4 is an advanced course designed to teach melodic-style scale patterns, single-string scales, and alternating thumb roll techniques.
(bluegrass music) (banjo music) - Welcome to Course Four, here we're getting some more advanced material, some Melodic Style scale patterns, which is what I just did, where the scale, you kinda go down four notes, back two, down another four, back two, or up three and back one. There are just various patterns you can create with the Melodic Style.
And then, also getting into the Single String Style, which is a third style, beside Scruggs Style and Melodic. Instead of going . . . (banjo music) on three different strings, you can do it on one string. (banjo music) Going thumb, index, thumb, index, thumb, index, thumb, index. (banjo music) If you've heard of Bela Fleck, he does a lot of this kind of playing. He's wonderful at it, as he is with many other things as well. And, so, just some various improvisatory techniques that will help you move forward with your playing on a more advanced level.
And, this is Course Four.
