- Let's make a jump and let's talk about a multi-band compressor that is very widely used, perhaps the most widely used version of a multi-band compressor, the De-esser. So I'm going to open up the FabFilter De-esser, which is a spectacular De-esser. And what we're essentially going to use it for is to get rid of sibilance over active SS things that sort of tear your face off a little bit. We can also use it to go after harshness in different ranges. A De-esser is essentially a one band, multi-band compressor where we are setting a frequency range here that we want it to listen to and it's essentially either attenuating the entire frequency range or giving us just a duck in a certain area surrounding that frequency. And what we can do is, we can really get very specific and we can have it just attack certain frequencies. So the things stay smooth because microphones can react pretty heavily to harshness, sibilance…
