Using VCAs to control modulation depth

Using VCAs to control modulation depth

(synth piano music) - [Instructor] There's other uses for VCAs other than just closing off the entire sound coming out of your synthesizer. You can use VCAs also, to envelope or articulate control voltages running around inside your synth. For example, some people like to use an oscillator to frequency modulate the cut off of the filter inside their synthesizer. Creates a very raw, edgy sound. To do that's gunna require some repatching. So I'm just gunna pull a few cables for now, just to start from scratch again here. Let's see what's going on. There we go. Get rid of some of this clutter. Take the output of the Moog, run it through the Mordax so we can see what's going on, and take the output of that, or a copy of it at least, and run it to our audio output. I think I'll use the square wave to generate my sound inside the synth. (static hiss) Oops, I'm on my external input on the mixer, let's turn it over to the VCO in the Moog. (harsh synth piano) Nice big fat sound. Let's switch…
