Roland 572: Phase shifter

Roland 572: Phase shifter

- [Instructor] The Roland 572 is modeled after the classic Ronald system 100M, module 172. It was three sections: Phase shifter, what's called a delay, which is really a course unit, and a gate delay. These two process audio, the bottom section processes triggers and gate signals. It also lets you get a copy of the LFO used to modulate the phase shifter and the course unit. It's 16 HP wide, not bad at 38 millimeters deep. It does draw 110 milliamps on the plus 12, and 90 miliamps on the minus 12 voltage line. We're going to at each of these three major sections in order, starting with the phase shifter. Phase shifters make the copy of the signal alter the phase, or the cycle of the sound and mix it back in with the original. This results in different harmonics being canceled or reinforced, creating a swimming sort of underwater sound. In a normal patch, you would take the output of your synth voice, run it to the input on a module like a phase shifter, and take the output of the phase…
