Roland 572: Gate delay

Roland 572: Gate delay

(tech music) - [Instructor] Now, the third major section of the Roland 572 is this gate delay. This is different than the delay section above it. The delay section is meant for processing audio signals, where gate delay is meant for processing triggers and gates. What it does is decide when a signal is over a particular threshold, delays the rising edge of an incoming gate by a certain amount of time, and keeps the gate open, also by a specified amount of time. This is a good utility, just to clean up dirty gates coming from other modules. I sometimes have had trouble with clocks or sequencers mistriggering other modules downstream. This cleans it up. This is particularly good if you want to get, sort of, a plucked sound or a decayed sound, or a colon response sound where playing one note results in another, say envelope generator, opening up later underneath this control. You could copy your gate into this and trigger a whole second voice inside a larger synthesizer. You could use it…
