Roland 572: Analog delay and chorus
(rhythmic synth music) - [Instructor] Okay, let's move down to the delay section of this module. Delay and chorus use the same circuitry. Chorus is a very short delay, with the delay time modulated. Delay, itself, is a longer delay time, so you can hear individual repeats. This module is much better at chorus than it is at delay. Going to pull out my mod wheel controlling the LFO for now. Let's just go ahead and undo some of this patch, just to simplify things, and repatch down to chorus unit. (high-pitch hissing) Again, the blue trace is the output form our synthesizer, the green trace is the output from our chorus line. And, if you listen, you can already hear a hiss audible from this delay. This is using old-fashioned, so-called bucket brigade device delay chips, which are known to be noisy, and also have some artifacts, such as clock noise. Some people prize those artifacts as being a vintage sound, some people complain the sound is pristine and clean as a modern digital chorus…
