- [Instructor] I want to discuss the process of licensing, what to expect once the music supervisor or creative executive reaches a decision and expresses interest in licensing your song. If the executive is considering using your song in their film, show or game, the first thing that will happen is, you'll receive a call or email from the music clearance department or company. Their job is to clear the rights to the song, inquiring about the song, and asking you what the cost is to license the song for a specific set of terms. This is called a quote request. Now, there are some cases where, instead of asking you for the cost, they'll suggest a fee for the song rights based on what is in their production budget.
