Make sure you have the hi-res mixes, including an instrumental mix, when pitching your songs for film and TV—says industry veteran, Cliff Goldmacher.
- [Instructor] One of the things that songwriters…will come across, especially these days,…where film and TV is sort of referred to as the new radio,…is that you want to create a demo…that you can pitch to film and TV.…There are a couple of things to keep in mind…in order to make this effective.…First and foremost, make sure that you get…the high resolution, or .wav files from the studio,…including an instrumental track.…Hi-res is what the music supervisors need…to place your actual recording in the film or the TV show.…
And instrumentals are really useful…in case the music supervisor or the director loves the song,…but there are parts where the vocals will distract…from what's on the screen.…If that's the case, and you've provided them…with an instrumental version,…they'll have everything they need.…Secondarily, make sure that during your demo session,…you get the musicians and the singer to sign a release…giving you permission to use their performances as a master.…It is always better to get these at the time of the session,…
