Moving up the neck on the 5th string

- Now let's go over the same kinda concept on the A string. So far, you have open A, (strumming A string) second fret B, (strumming B string) and third fret C. (strumming C string) And you certainly know that the open fourth string is D, (strumming D string) and then second fret E, and then F, but those notes are also here on that fifth string, D, E, and F. So you can play open A, B, C, D, E, and F. Let's just practice on that higher position, D, E, and F for a moment in the next example. Here we go. (drums counting off) One, two. One, two, ready, go. (strumming D, E, and F notes) (strumming F, E, and D notes) Okay, now let's look at all those notes on the fifth string chromatically. So we'll start out with open A. (strumming A note) First fret, A sharp. (strumming A sharp) Then second fret, the second finger B. (strumming B note) Then C. (strumming C note) and sliding up one higher to C sharp. Now jump over the the next position, and you have D, D sharp, (strumming D notes) E…
