- [Instructor] Let's talk metadata. Not the most exciting part of licensing, but it's of critical importance. So, you've gone through all the work of writing and recording a great song. You even found a way to get the song submitted to a music supervisor and against all odds, the music supervisor loves the song and wants to use it in a TV show. The next thing a supervisor is going to do is to check the metadata on the song for a number of items. If you tagged the song with the right information then you can expect an email, call, or tweet from the supervisor. If you didn't tag the song correctly then there's a good chance you won't hear from the supervisor because he or she will have moved onto another song that suits the same purpose in a scene but is easier and faster to clear. Clear means to obtain the rights to use. When I say tagged and metadata, what I'm referring to is the song information that is embedded into the music file itself.
