(pulsating beat music) - [Instructor] Now we're going to look at an alternative to the normal VCA. And this is a type of module referred to as a Low Pass Gate. Most low pass gates combine a low pass filter with a VCA in one module. And quite often you could either access them individually, such as VCA alone, Filter alone, or usually both together. The idea is closing down the cutoff of a low pass filter pretty much reduces the sound of silence, some people add a VCA to make sure you go all the way to silence, but also that process of lowering the high harmonics while the sound dies away mimics the way that natural sounds, particularly percussive sounds, behave. Well this is an update on the low pass gate concept. It's the Lifeforms Dynamic Impulse Filter by Pittsburgh Moduler Systems. It's eight hp wide, it's very shallow at 23 millimeters, and it only draws 35 milliamps on the plus and minus 12 volt lines.
