- All right, so the next example is in the style of the classic song, House of the Rising Sun. Now when you look at the music, you'll see that there is a quarter note that appears before your first measure of music, and that is called a pickup note. They occur often in music, and the way that you play that is by playing during count off into the music. So if it was a piece in four-four, and there was a quarter note leading into your first measure, the count off would go one, two, three, and on four, you play leading into the first real full bar of music. This piece is in three-four, so as count off occurs, one, two, three, one, two, play, you come in on that third beat leading into the rest of the music. One other thing I'll mention about this is you guys have learned some bending techniques. Feel free to incorporate that into this music.
