Chris explains the layout of this very flexible dual LFO which offers flexible outputs and many control options. This video includes a review of the waveforms offered by this digital LFO that go beyond those normally available in analog LFOs, and shares tips on how to deal with the high noise level of this module.
(synth music)…- [Instructor] Most analog low frequency oscillators…have a limited number of wave shapes.…Some may only have a square wave and a triangle wave,…better ones like this Roland have also have the falling…and rising sawtooth, and a sine wave.…You can feed those shapes through a wave shaper,…if you want to get more complex shapes,…but if you really want more involved…and more complex modulations forces,…you need to look at a digital LFO,…such as this Kermit Dual Modulation Aid…from Industrial Music Electronics…that used to be known as the Harvestman,…but it's the same company run by Scott Jaeger.…
This is two digital LFOs, the 16 different wave forms…inside one module.…It's 10HP wide, only 29 millimeters deep…and requires 90 milliamps on the plus 12…and 30 milliamps on the minus 12.…You can treat these two LFO sections independently…or have them cross-modulate eachother.…There's some other nice touches to the output…flexibility of the Kermit.…For example, each half has two different outputs,…a 10 volt peak to peak, which is plus or minus five volts,…

7/3/2017This course has been designed as the logical follow-up to the original Learning Modular Synthesis or Learning Modular Synthesis: Moog Mother-32 courses, and should be helpful to a wide range of modular synthesists.
- Shopping for modules more intelligently, with a better understanding of what features, options, and sound possibilities to look for
- Interfacing your modular with the rest of your studio, including MIDI and sound connections
- Reading waveform and spectrograph displays to better understand what each module is doing in your system, and how that translates to the sound that you hear
- Creating new timbres using and combining both East and West Coast techniques, employing creative waveform mixing, frequency and amplitude modulation, soft and hard sync, waveshaping, and more
- Managing audio levels to balance your desired amount of predictability and fidelity versus instability and distortion in a patch
- Taking advantage of additional MIDI and CV controls to more interactively perform your modular patch, including managing control voltage levels to dial in the desired result
