- Another element of the craft of songwriting is how to make sure that your songs are unique. This is something that we all struggle with on some level and I think that there are a variety of ways to solve this particular problem. One of the things that I have found is that the more songs you write the more you'll find your own voice as a song writer. On some level if you're not sure your songs are unique just keep writing. Because one of the things that will happen for lack of a better way of putting it, some of your influences will be shed as you begin to understand what it is that you want to say yourself. Another thing to think about is that unique does not mean complicated. There's a tendency again, early on to think, well I know how to make this unique. I'll make this so unbelievably difficult and complicated that nobody would ever dream of doing a song like this. The problem with that is while it might be unique, it will be inaccessible and you'll have a really hard time…
