- Okay, and I want to just finish off this backup section with something in the style of Earl Scruggs where you'll see him working up the neck for the first half and then the second half he just jumps down the neck, jumps down the neck to the lower regions down here. So it's gonna go like this. There are a couple of interesting things here, one of which, it's starts right off with this. Rather than just working out of your F position G, what Earl does is he slides up on the first and fourth strings and then inverts the index and middle. So you're going from one G position to the next G position. And then he jumps back down. This is a really handy thing to do. You can do it on C chord. You're going from the F position to the D position of the chord. Or D, the same thing. But anyway, just to stick with this G. So Earl goes. And then he hits the open fifth, open second and hammers on three to four on the third string as he hits the first string. Just keep your pinky down the whole time…
