- One more lick that is a great lick that Earl Scruggs came up with. He was really influenced by the swing era and licks like this in particular. (banjo lick) So you get the pinky up here on the 17th fret of the fifth string, starting on the fifth string. 17th fret of the first string, I think I said that. And there's a real syncopation in there (sings banjo lick) (sings and plays banjo lick) So you take the pinky at the 17th fret and then move it down to the 14th fret go to the middle finger on the 12th fret of the first string up to the pinky again an the 14th fret and once you're there take your index finger and slide 11 to 12 on the second string while the pinky's at the 14th fret of the first string so you get (banjo lick). And then you jump down to this position here, which is the top two notes of your D-position G chord.
