- Alright, let's give a listen to example number two. One, two, three, four. Alright, let's break this one down. So we're going to start with a G9 chord, that's on strings five, four, three, and two, in the second position. G, F. A, and then D. We're going to play the upbeats of that rhythm, using an upstroke with our pick. But so that we don't lose the time feel, we're going to keep up the momentum by keeping our right hand going in time to the music. Notice I'm using a little bit of a circle motion here. What I'm going to do, I'm going to come down on the strings but they're all bent from the downbeat, just kind of loosen your grip on the strings and mute all of them, still get that scratch in there. Then you press the strings down, fret the chord, and on the upstroke, play it. But you only want to play the strings that you have fretted, you need to mute the outside strings, using your thumb, probably your thumb and your index finger, right here.
