Example 1: "Blues for Breakfast"

- Alright, in this next section we're going to talk about blues rock. We're going to play blues rock shuffle rhythms. Our first one is in the key of A. I'm going to play it through for you once. First four bars were a turnaround and then I'll explain to you how to do it. Here we go. (blues rock music) Alright, let's break this one down. Okay, so very standard. The old standby, we're going to play in the key of A. We're going to play the bar A at the fifth fret and then the E at the seven foot of the fifth string. We're going to do that two notes on that, double stop and then add another note, two frets above the highest note on the fifth string. With our pinky, so it's that big stretch. Now, we're going to play that four times in the key of A, 12 bar blues, right? Then we go to the D chord, we move the same shape down to the fifth string. With a D on the road. Move it up two steps for the E. And we mute the strings with the heal of our right hand. And remember to really make that shuffle feel really strong, bring it out. It's got to feel like it's lopping along like that, that's really important, that's the essence of it. So then we have a turnaround (blues rock music) that I've included which is single notes. That's on strings five and four. I'm going to use a pedal tone of A, on the fourth string. And then with my pinky, G on the fifth string or 10th fret. And then go down chromatically on the fifth string. Using my fingers four, three, two and one. And then, I'm going to go right back up to the five from a whole step below chromatically. So there you go.
