Bryan continues his series of crosspicking exercises that challenge both the left and right hands. He demonstrates this crosspicking drill by alternating his picking up and down while playing in the key of C. Bryan reinforces that the main goal is to be able to play smoothly and consistently.
- The next exercise we have here takes the idea…of the first major scale cross-pick exercise,…and then we're gonna be working out of C.…(guitar strum) So we'll start with our C…and our first position there with the open strings.…On all these, you have the tab to download and follow along.…It starts off like with a basic C triad,…(slow guitar strumming) and moving up to a D minor,…and then back to first position.…
There's our F-shape.…Then we're gonna shift the whole F-shape to the G chord.…Now back to open.…There's a G7 with a pretty good little stretch right there.…Then a strum on the C.…Okay, so one more time, start open.…Then shift, while this G string is ringing,…this is when you talk about sort of the internal rhythm…of how these cross-pick patterns are developed.…
You try to make this smooth rhythmic transition…into this fretted D note right here like this.…(slow guitar strumming)…Notice how I'm able to keep the G ringing,…and then hit the D.…(slow guitar strumming)…The more you can work on that and get that G ringing strong…
