A crosspicking exercise with discussion on embellishing the crosspicking techniques with simple chord voicing changes. He also demonstrates the smooth rolling sound that can be achieved when this exercise is sped up. Emphasize the downbeats and create a strong sense of rhythm.
- Another way to enhance cross-picking is to…employ some of the other embellishments…that we talked about in that last exercise,…and we talked about the slide…into the different chord shapes…within cross picking.…Again, the idea is to make this…great sort of smooth,…rolling kind of pattern that it creates…this effect, and one way we can do this…and I got an exercise here that…kind of starts applying some more musical…framework around the idea of cross picking…is using a (guitar)…down here with C, F, and G.…
One, four, five, and C.…And so, the exercise starts with a hammer on.…And again, (guitar)…as we start with this thing with a little bit of rhythm.…I'll play through the exercise.…You know, cause the idea is to maintain…not, the effect sonically for someone listening…is only as good as your ability to kinda realize it…with you muscles, and so we really want to feel…this exercise and so the music of what's, what's here…is really felt for the listener.…So, the basic move here is…(guitar)…Instead of (guitar)…That's: (guitar)…
