- All right, now for Blues Rhythms. Now blues is the type of feel that you just gotta love. You just gotta get it in your bones and just groove out to it. Really it's based on a swing feel, and a swing feel is basically a triplet pattern. A triplet pattern divides each pulse into three notes. So it's like one, two, three, one, two, three. With a traditional shuffle or swing, you only play the first and third of those. It's one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, and you can count it as one, ah, two, ah, three, ah, four, ah. Let's play this on the A chord as a shuffle pattern. It's a very traditional blues pattern. It just moves between this second fret and the fourth fret. You can use your index and ring finger for this and play along with me. Here we go. One, two, three, four. (guitar strums) All right, now let's take that same shuffle pattern and let's move it down a string to play it on D. It's basically the same riff, you're just gonna move down a string.
