“Banks of the Ohio,” up the neck: Part 1

- Now here's an up the neck break for "Banks of the Ohio." And, it's really just such a fun tune. I love this melody, and it's fun trying to find the best ways to play it, and of course that's an infinite thing. There are all sorts of different ways you could do it, and this is what I came up with. And I'll show you a few variations, also. Little places where you can plug-in different things in a few different measures. So here's "Banks of the Ohio" up the neck. ("Banks of the Ohio" on banjo) So. (banjo plucking) So I'm starting in the D position G chord with the pinky on the ninth fret of the first, middle on the eighth fret of the second, index on the seventh fret of the third. (banjo plucking) And this is that standard Scruggs intro rhythmically, badum bum bum ba. (banjo plucking) Like badum bum bum ba. (banjo plucking) Or badum bum bum ba. (banjo plucking) Except up the neck. So, hit the first two strings. (banjo plucking) With the eighth note, it's like one-two-three-four…
