(techno music) - [Instructor] The next function I want to look at is the sub base, the ability to add in sounds an octave below. For the sub base to be audible, we need to be plugged in to the x input. One of the inputs for the ring modulator and other processing functions. The mixer bypasses this additional processing. Now that I'm in the x input, I can turn up sub base one (tone sounds) and hear a lower octave sound come in. You notice it's not a perfect square wave, and indeed, it changes shape depending on what note you're playing. It has some harmonics down low, but up high, it's more rounded, and has even fewer harmonics. The idea is, down low you like having the additional higher harmonics to help blend into the sound. But as you go higher in pitch, you don't want it filling in too much of the higher harmonics, which would just end up in a noisy sound.
