- Number six, if you play a fiddle tune in the melodic style, figure out how to play it in the single string style. So you could take some thing like June Apple, and do it single string style. And that's just the A section, but you get the idea. Just find those notes in the single string style. And this is something that both Noam Pikelney, and a guy named Wes Corbett, who's been teaching up at the Birklee College of Music. Just a wonderful, wonderful banjo player, and of course, Noam, his name just speaks for itself. And I talked to them about how they got into all the single string stuff that they were doing, and, 'cause they're both great single string players. And they said one of the things they did that really helped them a lot is playing fiddle tunes in the single string style. So it's another way to try to get a whole new perspective on a tune, and kind of build your technique at the same time. So anyway, that's a really handy thing to try.
