Decide in advance if you're going to bring ideas or start

- So one of the first things that I would recommend when you're going into a co-write is decide in advance with your collaborator if you're going to be bringing in ideas to the session or starting cold. A lot of times if you're new to co-writing and a little nervous about it maybe, having some ideas in your bag just so that you're not starting completely from scratch can go a long way to, sort of, taking the edge off. Um, whether it's a list of song titles or even maybe a snippet of a verse melody or a chorus melody, it just makes things easier overall. So if you're new to this process, let your collaborator know, listen I'm going to bring a few ideas and see how that goes. However, if you're more experienced at this, and this has been my experience, I've done hundreds and hundreds of these things, and my experience as a songwriter is that I am paired often with younger artists who maybe have great voices, maybe are great performers, but don't necessarily have the songwriting chops…
