How to create a font scheme for your elearning course

- When you're designing an elearning course, the easiest graphic design element you can customize is the look and feel of your text. And you can do this by creating and sticking to a consistent font scheme. Now whether you're creating a font scheme that matches your company's brand standards or you're creating one that's completely custom, I always like to follow a few simple rules. First, select a title font. This should be something that's bold and unique, and as I'm sure you can imagine, you'll use this for your slide titles. Second, select a heading font. Like your title font, this should be something that stands out from the other typefaces you select. Third, select a body font. This should be something that's clear and legible but also contrasts with your title and heading fonts. For example, if you're using a serif font for your headings, you might want to use a sans-serif font for your body content. Fourth, select an emphasis font. This should be something that's similar to your body font in that it's legible, but also contrasting to show emphasis. For example, if you want to highlight a quote or something important. All right, so now that we've covered the rules for creating a font scheme, let's look at a few examples from an elearning course that I've been developing on customer service. I've gone ahead and created three different font schemes, and as you can see, I've used a combination of serif, sans-serif, and different font sizes to create visual contrast. Now here's one of my slides from my course which is using a default font scheme, and as you can see, it's pretty boring. But if I apply my first font scheme it totally changes the look and feel of the slide. Now I think this one is okay, but let's see what my second font scheme looks like. And as you can see, this one is very different, and I don't think it really fits with the topic of my course, so let's try my third font scheme. Okay, that looks really good. There is a lot of good contrast between my headings and body content. Everything is legible and it looks really good. I think I'll stick with this one. All right, so those are just a few examples of how you can customize the look and feel of your elearning course by creating a consistent font scheme. So the next time you're building an elearning course, try going beyond the default fonts and see how you can improve the design of your slides by exploring your font library.
