The foundation of VDC or BIM is parametric modeling

- [Instructor] Parametric modeling is the foundation of today's AEC industry and people sometimes coin it as BIM, or Building Information Modeling, or some call it Virtual Design and Construction. What they're really saying is that you have the ability to affect a project, or a design, in multiple different dimensions, with multiple layers of information embedded into different components within the model. Meaning that I can make an adjustment here, and I am not only affecting the floor plan, but I'm also affecting elevations. I'm also affecting data within the project. So, for instance, I just pulled that wall out, and now it's affecting it in three different locations, or multiple different locations. So, again, if I affect it here, and I make some kind of adjustment, and I go back to my floor plan, it's adjusting that information. So that really is the basis for modern architectural or engineering or even construction, is that we're looking at projects in multiple different dimensions, but also we're affecting it in multiple different views, and multiple different situations. And that really is the foundation of archiCAD, as well as a lot of the modern design tools, is that it's based on parametric design.
