Introduction to BIM
- [Voiceover] Let's talk a little bit about BIM. You may know that BIM stands for Building Information Modeling, and it is the concept of modeling building elements, adding information to those elements until we have a virtual replica of the final building. So when you construct this virtual replica, you will foresee a lot of problems that would only appear during the construction phase, and that's when you save time, material, and therefore, money. But it's important to note that BIM is not a software. BIM is a concept, and there are many software that are BIM compliant. For example, ArchiCAD is a fully BIM-capable software, and it was actually one of the first ones back in 1987, when it started combining 2D and 3D, and it was called at the time, the virtual beauty. It's important also to understand that BIM is not just a 3D, it's not just about the modeling part.
