Working with scale and graticules

To understand projections, we first start with the concepts of graticule and scale. A graticule, is a geographic grid system. To see this, I want to open up ArcGlobe for a brief discussion. ArcGlobe is under the umbrella term of ArcGIS, and you should find it in your ArcGIS folder on your start menu. Here, I've opened up our globe. Now the main graticule we use for location, is latitude and longitude. And that is the reference system we use to locate places on earth. As a refresher, remember, that you can find any place on the grid, or the graticule, of latitude and longitude in the form of coordinate pairs. We measure, away from two standard lines,. The equator, at zero degrees latitude and the primoridian as zero degrees longitude. We can measure away from these lines and are able to find a location based on its latitude and longitude. Let's use our gloat cds. I'll right click on the globe layers, and I'll turn on the properties. In this case, I'll select grid, and hit OK. And now…
