What you should know before watching this course

So what do you need to know before watching this course? In this course, I'm starting with the idea that you know a little about GIS and that your knowledge of GIS comes from working with Esri's ArcGIS software. You do not need to be well acquainted with the software. Nor with the vast depth of geographical theory that underpins many aspects of how and why the software works as it does. I will teach much of that to you as we go deep into the solutions for each question. Although ArcGIS software continues to grow in new versions, much of what I show you can be done with versions of ArcGIS 10.x and beyond. If you're working with some version of ArcGIS 9 or earlier, there have been significant changes in interface design, workflows, data access, and incorporation of ArcGIS online. Which will limit your ability to perform some of the procedures that I show you in this course. If that's the case, however, you'll still be able to understand the concepts. Finally, if you're more familiar with ArcMap and even may have taken a course or two in GIS, you're going to see some things that you already know. But often, I will introduce something new that you haven't seen before or teach a concept differently than you've heard. Let me encourage you to still proceed through each topic, and enjoy the re-visit, along with the new knowledge you gain.
