Join Adam Wilbert for an in-depth discussion in this video Changing the map's scale, part of ArcGIS Essential Training.
- When we zoom in and out of our map documents,…we're not just getting a closer look,…we're adjusting the scale at which…our data is being presented.…Because of the fixed size limitations of our…computer screens and printer paper,…as you zoom in you gain more space for things…like descriptive labels, but you reduce the amount of…features that you're able to see at any one time.…Let's take a look at how we can get more…control over the scale at which we present our data.…Now from the earlier movie, we saw that the magnifying…glass icons here, with the plus and the minus,…will zoom us in and out of our map.…We also saw that when you hold down the "z" key,…we can temporarily change to the zoom in tool,…and if we hold down the "x" key,…we can temporarily change the zoom out tool.…
Let's hold down the "z" key and zoom into…the eastern portion of the United States here.…That will load up a new map at a new resolution,…and again I'm gonna zoom into the city of New York.…Which is right here on the map, I'll hold down…
