- Upgrading to the new version of the Watch OS is really easy. Everything happens on the iPhone in the Apple Watch app. So I'm starting on the iPhone, and my watch is already paired and set up with this iPhone. So I'm going to launch the watch app. So of course, my watch is already set up here, and I've got all of my normal configuration here in the app. All I need to do is go into the General section, then to this option that says Software Update. After a moment, it will check to see if there is a new update, and it's found the new update, and it's offering to install it.
Before you do the update, you should connect your watch to the power cable. The watch has to be connected to the power cable and charged to at least 50%. If it is not, and you run the udate, the update will download, but you'll see a message saying that the update is paused until you connect the watch to the power cable. And even if you do plug the watch into the power cable, if the battery is not at 50% or higher, it'll wait until the battery is charged up to 50%, then the upgrade will continue. So, my watch is plugged into the power cable, so I'll start the upgrade.
All I need to do is hit this button that says Download and Install. Then I'll have to put in my passcode for the phone. I'll agree to the Terms and Conditions, and now the upgrade process is underway. First, it's going to download the upgrade, then it will install it on my watch. Now right now, this is giving me an estimate that it's going to take about two hours to download. But when I ran this update on another watch, that estimate did go down after a little bit of time. So it might not take quite that much time to download for you.
And you're not going to be able to use your watch during the upgrade process. The screen will lock, and you'll just see a status indicator on the watch until the upgrade is done. And make sure that the watch stays connected to the charger until this process is finished. And when it's done, you're all set and ready to go with the new Watch OS. You can dive into this course and start learning the new features.
