System requirements for macOS Catalina and iPadOS

- [Instructor] If you haven't upgraded yet to macOS Catalina, you will need to in order to have the version of Photos that I'm using in this training. So here are a few things. This is the Apple How to Upgrade page, and I actually think it's quite good. And there's the URL right there. And if you haven't upgraded yet, you might want to go to the machine that you want to upgrade and open this page, and I'll show you why here. So first of all, they have a very can do attitude here. Chances are, your Mac can run macOS Catalina. I love that, that's very positive. And actually, they're right, that is not stuff. Now you can check your Mac hardware by clicking on this link right here, and again, that's why it's nice to run this page on the machine that you're thinking about upgrading. Make sure you're ready to upgrade. Some good solid advice here about backing up your Mac. Always a good idea for system software. It's free. We like that because it's really high quality and it's free. That is a nice combination. Here are the general requirements and the Mac hardware requirements, and you'll see they are fairly liberal. Look at this, MacBook Air back to mid 2012. MacBook Pro back to mid 2012, nice stuff. In fact, this Mac right here, my production Mac that I record on is five years old and it's running Catalina just great, it really is. So in fact, I think it's running a little bit faster. And I've also upgraded an iMac at home, which I have done some testing on for this title and it runs great there. So this is a good OS upgrade. Probably by the time you're watching this movie, all the bugs will be worked out. Even with me on the bleeding edge, still didn't have too many problems. Just a little hiccup here and there and they were all easily fixed or overcome. And they've already done an update even right after they released the software. So it's pretty smooth stuff. Go ahead and get your machine up to date and then you can enjoy Photos for macOS Catalina which is what we're going to be spending a lot of time on here over the next few movies.
