Live Photos can also be exported as animated GIFs. In this video, Derrick shows how to export a Live Photo in Photos for macOS High Sierra.
- [Instructor] So it's one thing to be able to enjoy your live photo creation here in Photos application, but it can go outside the application also, and this is a new feature that we have. And I can export it as an animated GIF. So let's take a look at that. We'll come down here to Export, Export GIF right here. We're going to send it to the desktop. There's no parameters. You don't have to worry about any settings or anything.
Just go ahead and do it. So I'll hit Export there. Okay, good, now let's minimize this. And here it is right here. Now let's see how this works. So I'm just going to go ahead and look at it in Safari. And look at that. (laughs) Isn't that neat? And any place that you can play an animated GIF, you can use this. You can rename it and do all that sort of stuff. You can put it on your webpage or send it to a friend, but it's been edited.
So we did some exposure and color adjustments. We trimmed it. We added the loop effect, and then we were able to export it as a GIF. And I just think it's really a nice feature. All of this done with the iPhone. Now let me show you one other thing real quick. I'll come back to this. I'm going to hold down the CTRL key, and I want to show you what happens if you open it with Preview. Because it is a GIF, then you will have these different frames right here.
And so it won't play in Preview, but you can see all the different frames that are part of the GIF. Just if you want to look and see how this thing is constructed, here it is right here, right? That's kind of neat. Anyway, okay, so there we go. So that is a look at some of the new live photos tricks that are in this version of Photos for macOS High Sierra, and now that you know that you can do this, have this in the back of your mind when you go out shooting with your iPhone, and if you find yourself in a situation where this functionality really helps you create something new and creative, do it, do it, and see what you can make.
