Create a new standalone library

- Let's say that I want to create a brand new photos library. I have a special project or a special vacation or something that I want to be outside my normal iCloud shared photos library. I can do that. All I have to do is hold down the option key and then launch the photos app. Just double tap on it. And it brings up this dialogue right here. And you go, "Oh right!" I'm just going to Create New. I'm going to put it in my pictures folder or wherever you want to put it. And I'm going to call it, New Library 2. Just like that. Because I've created one before. So this'll be my New Library 2 and click OK Once I do that, photos will finish launching and it'll show me this screen here. Now the only thing you have to keep in mind is that the stand alone libraries, these libraries that are separate from your system library, and from your iCloud shared library, there one offs.
