About badges, Control-clicks, and more

- [Instructor] I'm going to use a dating metaphor for a minute. You know, one thing that I always wanted to do on a first date was say, "Hey, I'm a pretty nice guy and fun to hang around with, "but I do have a few quirks. "And I'd like to tell you those right now "in case they're deal breakers." (laughs) Well, that's sort of what this movie is right here, as we prepare to enjoy this whole title together. There are a few things that I say or do that I want you to know about right now. The first one is double-click versus double-tap. I tend to use these terms interchangeably. For instance, when I'm using a trackpad, which I am most of the time on this because mouse clicks aren't fun to listen to, I'm double-tapping. That's what I did right there. Now, I'm going to double-tap again, and if I were using a mouse, it would be a double-click, right? I don't really pay attention if I'm using a mouse or a trackpad, and I may use those terms interchangeably. So, double-click, double-tap, just know they mean the same thing. You may be looking at some of these little badges. I might be talking about something else, and you're looking at the badges and going, "Well, how did those get there?" (laughs) They're little bits of metadata, and the way that they're controlled. Go up to View, here's Metadata. Here they all are, okay? And as I do things, they sometimes may show up on the image, and I don't really say why they're there. So, I'm going to tell ya now. Like for instance, this one here. This is a RAW + JPEG tandem, and the RAW is the original. Here's a JPEG + RAW tandem, with a JPEG on top. And I'll talk about, you know, what that means in a little bit. If you see a heart here, see that heart down there? Here's one here. That isn't filled. That's not a sad thing. It just means I haven't picked it as a favorite, and Apple wants to make it easy to do that, so it'll appear as I mouse over. Here's one that's filled. I have selected that as a favorite. This little tag means that this image has a keyword, such as two stars or three stars. This means that it has been worked on with the Editing tools. That's what that means. We have another one up here. Oh yeah, this one here. This pin means that it's geotagged, which probably means I captured it with an iPhone, since it geotags stuff automatically. And then I like to use control-click. I say that a lot, and that could be a right-click, if you have a mouse. Or that could be holding down the Control key on the keyboard and then clicking. I like to do that because it's a shortcut to a lot of these menu items, and it prevents me from having to go up here and look for it. So, I can just hold down the Control key and click and get all this stuff right here. Now, if you're using a mouse, it could be a right-click. If you're using a trackpad, it could be wherever you have that control-click shortcut set up. It all means the same thing, and I just wanted to explain this menu that just starts showing up (laughs) while I'm talking. Hopefully, I remember to say that I control-click, but if I didn't, that's what this is right here, all righty? Now, I'm sure I have a few more quirks that I'm not thinking of at the moment, but I thought I would share those with you right now. Hopefully, you still want to hang out with me, and we can continue to work on this together.
