- Hi, my name's Rich Harrington. - And I'm Scott Bourne. - And welcome, we're going to be exploring how to migrate from Apple Aperture into Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. And this is a task that we actually recently faced. Scott, you're a long time Aperture user. I'm a long time Aperture user. You know, in fact, we have multiple training titles available here on Lynda.com about Aperture. And here we are, talking about making the move to Lightroom. Perhaps we're the last two people on the planet to make that move. - Well, that's true. I am an Aperture diehard.
Everybody knows I started with Aperture. I was one of the premier Aperture evangelists for a long time. And I kept hoping that they were going to update it, but they didn't. There have been some minor maintenance updates, but Lightroom has been updated, now miles ahead of Aperture, and I just was faced with the harsh reality that I was going to have to make the switch. And it was painful, I have 405,000 images, so... - [Rich] Just a couple. - I thought this would be a great way to show people what I did, what you did, and maybe help them save some of the pain and agony that we went through while we were trying to figure this out.
- Yeah, actually we're going to explore the workflow in a very logical way. We're going to take it, look at it like you're in Aperture, and what do you do? Do you want to move the whole library? Do you just want to change your workflow going forward? What informations can I transfer? What's not going to transfer? These are two applications by two different manufacturers, but the good news is, we found in our test a lot of things can transfer like the organization, like the keywords. - Yes, you can save yourself some time using the tricks we're going to show you. We're also going to talk about why we're switching.
There's lots of information here and it's based on real world experience and it's all geared to simply help you save time, be more efficient and avoid some of the mistakes that Rich and I made. - Yeah, so we're going to start off with just a quick conversation that walks you through how to avoid some of the pain and make the right decisions. And then Scott and I are going to jump on a computer and get hands on and share with you some specific techniques. So, thanks for joining us.
