How animators use gestures
- How animators use gestures is much like a tool box. You're thinking about gestures as things that add on to how your character's feeling. If a character is upset and down, you're obviously gonna convey that with body language, right? The gesture can be either primary, the thing that's upfront and in your face, the main idea of the scene, or it could be a secondary gesture. So that would be something that's smaller that's adding on to the overall scene. We think about gestures in such a way where it's almost like a language. When we're in our dailies or in a review, people will speak in terminologies so that they know what the animator might need. Hey, you might want to try doing a hand gesture there, or I wonder if the point gesture is too, been used too many times? Or we saw this gesture three scenes ago, maybe you need to change that one out so that we can do something different. We're trying to find different ways of doing things, we're trying to look at the overall scenes around…
