What you should know

- This course is designed for Android developers , that is software developers who want to build mobile apps for Android devices. Before watching this course, you should have some understanding of the basics of Android development. You'll need to know what an activity is, and what a layout is, and in this course I'll also be working extensively with fragments. This course is part of a series. The first three courses in the series are listed here and they cover developing your first application, how to build the user interface of an Android app, and how to architect your application. This course, along with all the other courses in this series work with Kotlin instead of Java. As of May of 2019, Android is now a "Kotlin first" platform. Google will continue to support developers who are working with Java, but we can look forward to most new samples and documentation being primarily in Kotlin. If you're new to the Kotlin programming language, you can learn the basics with this course, and there are many other courses to help you in learning how to use Kotlin with Android. And you'll be working in Android Studio in this course, specifically version 3.5. Android Studio is the free IDE for Android development and it's based on IntelliJ IDEA community edition. In addition to the core Android studio product, I'll also be using the Kotlin plugin. This is what enables development in Android with the Kotlin programming language. You can learn more about Android Studio with this course. These, and many other courses are available in the library to help you improve your Android development skills.
