- [Instructor] TalkBack is the default screen reader on Android. It comes installed by default on many Android devices, but vendors may choose to include their own screen readers. For example, Samsung has Voice Assistant as their default screen reader and Amazon Fire tablets come with VoiceView installed. The screen readers, though, behave very similar to each other, but on rare occasions, some Android devices may not come with any accessibility service at all. In any case, it is possible to download TalkBack from the Play Store. The role of screen readers is to read what's on the screen. Although it may sound obvious, it's important to understand the things that screen reader users are interested to read and the best ways to describe the interface. The screen reader will read all user interface items that are important and meaningful, including notifications or changes in UI. The rule of thumb is simple.
