- [Instructor] As an example, in 1808 one of the first typewriters in history was created by the cited Pellegrino Turri to send secret love letters to the Countess Caroline Santoni who was blind. He also invented the carbon paper to be used in his machine. Mr. Vincent Cerf, one of the fathers of the internet is hearing impaired. His disability influenced the creation of the internet. Deaf and hard of hearing individuals were looking for an alternative way to communicate over the telephone. Mr. Cerf led to the creation of the first commercial email service. The automatic video captioning available on YouTube was led by Ken Harrenstien, a deaf software engineer at Google and his team. Assistive technologies in general help drive and push innovations forward such as capabilities of machine learning to recognize and describe images and sounds, improvements in voice recognition, and text to speech, which is a big driver for applications like Siri, Google Assistant, and Amazon's Alexa, and…
