- [Instructor] International standards and guidelines were implemented to help architects to accommodate different types of impairments. Many of theses guidelines are also regulations in some countries and regions. Accessibility is not only the right thing to do but it's also a requirement by law. In United States, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 also known as ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability. It affords similar protections as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which made discrimination based on race, religion, sex, or national origin illegal. The ADA applies not only to physical accessibility, that is the accessibility we've been discussing so far, but also to digital accessibility which is the subject we will be talking in this course. This means that you cannot discriminate against people with disabilities to use a website or application.
