Programming for Android with Java: Android Development Essential Training: Create Your First App

Each component in an Android app is implemented as a Java class. Custom apps use both the Java classes that are included in the SDK, and your own custom Java classes. Here's an example: The screen that an app displays to the user is managed by a Java class known as an activity. The core activity class is android.app.Activity, but you’ll also frequently use one of the Activity class’s subclasses. Some of these classes are part of the core SDK, while others are packaged with the Android support repository.
